Yesterday was just the most perfect late December day. In yesterday’s post, I talked about my really fantastic work lunch. (I just love eating very good food and getting to talk to acquaintances. That’s how you make friends!) After work, I ran a few errands, finished my Christmas shopping, and felt very productive. And then Tyler came over! We popped an edible and watched The Santa Clause and Muppet Christmas Carol. (We’re Canadian. It’s legal here and way cheaper than wine.) Plus I enjoyed Beer Exchange Day 11.

Ooh, and look at that locally purchased popcorn! The YYC Mix is specifically very good – it’s a mixture of spicy buffalo and maple syrup. Delicious. And, actually a pretty good pairing for Beer 11.
Beer Exchange Day 11

The kind of fun thing about drinking Beer 11 is that Tyler is a few days behind me in the exchange. He’s actually doing 12 days of beer, so he was only on Beer 8. (Which I didn’t think he would like, because he’s not an IPA fan. And it did take him the entire Santa Clause to drink it, so maybe he didn’t like it.) Anyway, the point of this story is that I had to keep Beer 11 a secret from him. So I forced him to keep his eyes closed while I snapped these pictures and then poured the beer into a glass.
Yes, a glass. A Beer Exchange first! I’m such a lady!
Beer Exchange Day 11 was the Town Square Brewing Avalanche Avenger Juicy Pale Ale. I’ve had their Beet Kettle Sour before – absolutely the type of beer my dad will buy me from my store – but I haven’t had a so-called “normal” beer from this brewery before. (By “normal”, I mean “no beets”.) And let me tell you, this beer was very “normal”. It was almost exactly what I think of when I think of beer. And I mean that in a very good way. I mean, the ABV is 5.5%!

The Avalanche Avenger is incredibly drink-able. Despite being an IPA, the hops are light on the tongue and it’s not super bitter. I don’t see this beer on Town Square’s taproom menu, but I am curious to hit up their taproom the next time I’m up north.
Oh, did I mention? Town Square is an Edmonton-based brewery. I haven’t been up to Edmonton since Kevin and I went to see The Greatest Gen live show in 2018. I obviously need to make the trip!
So, what Edmonton recommendations do y’all have for me?
