Happy New Year’s Eve, everyone! I have thoroughly enjoyed my week off posting – I’ve just been hanging out, working out a little, finishing some books, and socializing like crazy. On Saturday, we had our third annual Cheese Party and it was everything anyone could want it to be. Full of delicious cheese, gossip, and games.
This morning I took a very satisfying Power class taught by my friend Nicole. I washed my hair and then made a healthy lunch… and I’m just about to get ready for a 90s Bingo Night at Bottlescrew Bill’s to ring in the new year. I’m thinking Britney Spears mini-ponytails.
But before I do any of that – what is the point of making a plan if you don’t check in on it? I haven’t been great at closing the loop on this blog, but this time things are going to be different. This time, I’m going to let you know what I’ve actually completed on my 2024 Holiday Bucket List. Look at me go!
Holiday Bucket List Wrap-Up
- Put up my tree and set out my living room decorations
Nailed it! Granted, I didn’t do this until only a week or so before Christmas and they are still up but, hey. I still did it.
- Hang up a holiday wreath on my door
I cheated. This is a part of doing my decorations. Although, the Progress Principle is a very real way to get things done. So, Progress Principle FTW!
- Read a spicy holiday-themed romance novel
I only just hit this one. My KU algorithm is messed up right now and is only serving me sweet romance recommendations. (What even is the point!?) I finally stumbled upon a series of novellas by Tessa Bailey, Ali Hazelwood, etc and then found my way to the Christmas Notch book series, which scratched my itch. I paid money for some spice!
- Watch at least 3 Hallmark-style Christmas movies featuring magic, time travel, or The Christmas Carol
Well, I managed one “A Christmas Carol” themed one – Boyfriends of Christmas Past – and other than that, I just watched all the new Netflix ones. They were great, even if they didn’t fit my usual preferences.
- See a holiday play
I took Rylee to see Morpheus Theatre’s production of Puss in Boots and I also saw a pantomime version of Wizard of Oz out in Cochrane. That counts!
- Go to Zoolights
Yes! In fact, I even posted about it here.
- Drink some Kegnog at Cold Garden
Yes! Megan, Hans, Tyler and I went to Cold Garden to play some games and enjoy a single Kegnog before switching to beer.
- Visit at least two more Christmas markets
Yes! I posted about Tyler and I going to Market Collective and, while I didn’t post about it, I also went to Saskatoon Berry Farm’s Market with my mom, Darci, Rylee, and Wren.
- Mulled wine!
Yes! They had it at Zoolights!
- Watch Lord of the Rings
Nope. Maybe that will be a January project…
- Do some Christmas baking
Yes! Tyler and I made a few things throughout the month (rice krispie squares, brownies, and meringue cookies), in addition to our regular family baking day on Dec 22.
- Decide if Die Hard is a Christmas movie
You’ll have to listen to Dec 26’s Academy versus Audience to see what I decided…
- Make brunch and stay home under blankets all day
Sigh. No. I’m so bad at this.
- Take a group fitness class with holiday music
Yes! Luckily Nicole included Christmas music on her Dec 24 Power class, otherwise I wouldn’t have it this one!
- Make necklaces with Rylee
No. Rylee is not into necklaces right now.
- Enjoy a seasonal coffee beverage
Yes! Basically in the form of lots of sugar cookie mistos and eggnog lattes from Alforno.
- Watch the Survivor finale(s) with friends
I managed the first part of the finale with Sarah and Mike, but had drama for the second.
- Deep clean my house
hahahahaha
- Kiss under mistletoe
You know, I didn’t even see mistletoe anywhere, so how was I to kiss under it?
- Pay it forward
It feels sort of tacky to talk about donations. But yes.
You know, I think this is not too bad at all! The Holiday Bucket List Wrap-Up comes out at 15/20, which altogether seems to me like I’m meeting the minimal passing level for a festive holiday season. And I feel like some of it was out of my control? Perhaps I need to buy some mistletoe next year…
How did you do with your holiday bucket list? Let me know in the comments!
